MAG Level 1-5 State Championships Results.......

               State was held on the 27th and 28th of August was very a successful event for the Junior boys of Carmel & Co Gymnastics starting with Level 2 age gymnast Connor McAlister receiving a Silver Medal for attaining Silver Band results overall a great result for Connor. Level 2 open Gymnast Zac Paplauskas who also received a Silver Medal for attaining Silver Band results and came 12th overall from 54 of the State’s best. An outstanding effort from Zac!

               Level 4 age Team came 4th overall with Phoenix Stamp receiving a silver Medal for P-Bars, Aron Cox receiving 6th place on Vault, Ryan McAllister coming 10th on P-Bar and Kayden Harrison coming 11th on Pommel Horse. All outstanding efforts.

               Level 5 open Gymnast Joshua Iacovelli did extremely well receiving a silver medal on Vault  and 7th on High Bar.

               It was a fantastic effort from all! And a special thank you to our MAG coaches Ben and Jack who gave up their time to coach on the Weekend - much appreciated!!!!

Excellent results at State Trampoline Championships

               Congratulations to seven of our trampolinists at the NSW State Levels competition, at Homebush.  They all held their nerve and performed some excellent routines, accumulating with outstanding results:

  • Jared Smith – 1st on Double Mini Tramp (DMT) Level 3
  • Dannielle Lovatt – 2nd Trampoline Level 6, 2nd DMT Level 6
  • William McKenzie - 3rd Trampoline Level 3, 3rd Tumbling Level 3
  • Kate McCabe - 3rd Trampoline Level 3, 5th Tumbling Level 3

               Ryan Difazio and Jemma Corneteg just finished outside the medals, with strong performances in all three disciplines. Unfortunately Charlotte McGarrry was unable to compete due to illness but will be back to fitness to compete at the National Titles in Adelaide along with team member Danielle Lovatt. This is the first time the two girls have qualified for National Titles on Trampoline and are hoping to build on their success this year. Well done team and good luck for Nationals.

Great Results for our Gymnasts at Nationals

               Congratulations to our Coaches and Gymnasts for some outstanding results at both the Mens and Womens National Gymnastics Championships in July.

               Team mates Jack Doyle & Michael Tonegato headed to the AIS Arena in Canberra on the 13th to the 17th July. At the end of the two days competition, Level 9 Open Gymnasts Jack Doyle finished 5th overall, with Gold on Vault, Bronze on P-Bar and Pommel, with a 5th Place on High Bar.

               Michael Tonegato represented NSW in level 8 Open, finishing an impressive 4th Overall with Gold on High Bar and Silver on Floor.

               NSW placed 3rd overall in level 8 and level 9 teams division, with both Jack Doyle and Michael Tonegato being selected to represent Australia in a Level 7-10 open tour headed to Los Angeles next year. The boys will be joined by coach Tricia O’Connell who will be Australia’s Level 8 Open Head coach for the tour. Well done!

               Kayleigh Falconer & Brooke Connolly were at Perth’s Challenge Stadium on the 6th to the 10th July, representing NSW in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Level 6 International. The NSW Team finished 2nd in the teams Division.

               Both Girls are only 11 years old, and this was their first major competition in the highly competitive elite stream, with Brooke gaining a 5th place on Vault.

               Both Brooke & Kayleigh, along with Coach Carmel Blades, stayed behind in Perth for three days to work with Australia’s National Women’s Coach Peggy Liddick, and National Junior Coach Jo Richards on the Team Future camp, bringing together the top coaches in the country to work with Australia’s brightest prospects. The girls were amongst twenty gymnasts in their age group, selected from across Australia to participate in the camp, with the highlight being some pointers from Australia’s dual Olympic Medallist Alanna Slater.

Tramp Coach Kaleb still has it!

               Well done to our Trampoline Coach Kaleb Collins who recently travelled to Kakegawa City in Japan in early July to compete in the 2010 Indo-Pacific Championships. Kaleb represented Australia in the Mens 17+ years and acheived a 4th in qualifications, and a 2nd overall in DMT (Double Mini Tramp). Super stuff that!

Diamonds shine at the Auscheer International on the Gold Coast

               Well done to the Diamonds Cheer Squad who headed North for the the Auscheer Internationals held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on the 3rd July.

               The girls excelled with 2nd places in Pom, Level 4 Cheer, Hip Hop and Group Stunt, talk about consistent! This leaves the squad in a pretty good position for the Auscheer Nations Cup series, which consists of four rounds throughout the year, followed by Cheer Nationals, scheduled for Melbourne later in the year.

Trivia Night to raise funds for our Nationals competitors

               So far, we have seven competitors and two coaches heading off to Nationals to represent NSW and we will be holding a trivia night to help with the costs of travelling. The event will be held on Sunday 27th June at the Links Shell Cove function room. There will be giveaways, fun games, and of course some serious stretching of the grey matter! All money raised will be divided equally amongst athletes and coaches.

State Championships Results

               Congratulations to all of our competitors who competed at Homebush over the long weekend! In the Mens Artistic Gymnastics, Level 9 open competitor Jack Doyle took out 2nd overall  with an impressive 1st on Vault & Floor, 2nd on High Bar and P-Bars and 3rd on Rings.

               In the Level 8 open division, Michael Tonegato took first place overall! Michael’s impressive results of 1st on Pommel, Rings & High Bar, 2nd on Vault & P-Bar and 3rd on Floor sealed the Level 8 open NSW State Champion title for 2010.

               In the Level 6/U12 Division, Robert Fassone finished 11th overall, and will join teammates Michael and Jack at National Championships at Canberra in July. For a complete list of MAG results, visit NSW Gymnastics results.

In Womens Artistic Gymnastics, Level 1 IDP competitor Emmy Withers finished an impressive 20th out of a field of 31 competitors, many of whom have been competing IDP 1 for several years!

               In IDP 3, Kaitlin Lloyd finished 9 overall, with a 6th on Bars. Team mates Kalila Stanley, Georgia Lee and Teeya Scolameiro finished 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.

               In IDP 6, Kayleigh Falconer came in 5th Overall, with a 2nd on Floor, and 5th on Beam. Fellow IDP 6 Gymnast Brooke Connolly, returned to competition after missing both trials due to injury. Despite having injury problems in the leadup, Brooke came 7th overall, with 3rd on Vault and 4th on Floor. Both Girls head to Perth in July to represent NSW at National Championships in Perth.

               Level 9 Senior Gymnast Jerrica Lovatt placed 2nd on Vault, 3rd on Beam and 4th on Floor. Jerrica will also head to Perth in July. For a complete list of WAG results, visit NSW Gymnastics results.

Great start at round 1 of the Auscheer Series

               Well done to the Dolphins who, despite only forming the squad a few months ago, took out first place in Level 2 cheer and also first in Pom! Both results combined to give them first overall on Saturday night at the State Sports Centre in Homebush, and valuable points to the 2010 Nations Cup series!

Off to Nationals for seven of our gymnasts, and two bouncers!

               A big congratulations to our WAG Gymnasts Jerrica Lovatt, Kayleigh Falconer and Brooke Connolly who will head to Perth in July to represent NSW . This is the first time for these girls representing NSW so good luck, and enjoy the experience. 

               Unlike the girls, Jack Doyle and Michael Tonegato are no strangers to National Championship camps, and will also represent NSW in the MAG National Championships at Canberra in July, as will HPC based gymnast AJ Lovatt. The Boys will be joined by Robert Fassone who represents for the first time.

               The Boys will be joined by NSW State coach Tricia O’Connell, while the girls will be joined by Carmel Blades.

               Trampolinists Charlotte McGarry & Danielle Lovatt have also qualified to represent NSW at the National Trampoline Championships in Adelaide. Well done to all competitors, and best of luck!

Carmel & Co Coaches and Gymnasts Nominated for Awards

               Congratulations to MAG coach Tricia O’Connell who has been nominated for NSW Gymnastics prestigious “MAG Levels Coach of the Year” for 2009 where her Gymnasts achieved some outstanding results at State & National Championships, and representing Australia in their NZ tour.

               Jack Doyle, who trains under Tricia, has also been nominated for Gym NSW “Senior MAG athlete of the year” for 2009. This follows Jack taking out the Illawarra Junior Sports Star of the year award recently for his efforts in 2009, including impressive Nationals results, and great performances representing Australia in the NZ tour.

               Fellow Carmel & Co coaches Xiao Qing Li and Ming Lu will be competing for the title of “NSW WAG elite coach of the year” for their efforts at NBG throughout 2009.

               We wish our coaches and Jack all the best for the awards night on Sunday 27th June!

  

Eight of our WAG Elite on State Squads!

               A big congratulations to our girls who gained selection to the NSW Gold, Silver and Bronze Squads.

               Gabby Hussey joins Jasmine Ford on the NSW Gold Squad for 2010. The Girls will spend time with some of the Countries best coaches at clinics and camps throughout 2010.

               In the NSW Silver Squad, Brooke Connolly and Kayleigh Falconer gained selection. This is Brookes second year in the NSW Silver Squad, and Kayleigh's first after graduating from the 2009 Bronze Squad.

               In the Bronze Squad, Tess Campbell gained reselection. While new comers Georgia Lee, Kaitlyn Lloyd and Kalila Stanley will join the Bronze squad for the first time. Congratulations Girls!

   

Two new coaches for 2010

               We are all very excited to have two new coaches starting in January. Ming Lu and Xiaoqing Li both have a huge amount of experience in elite gymnastics. Those girls who are on the NSW Gold Squad will already know them.

               Ming Lu was on the Chinese National Mens Team from ‘79 to ‘86, and highlights over his career include 2nd at the Montreal World Cup, ‘85 and Gold on Pommel and 4th on P-Bar at the Chinese Games in ‘87. Ming Lu then made the transition to coaching. He worked at the AIS for 5 years were he travelled extensively with the Australian team to major international events, then he did Talent ID for Gymnastics Australia for another 2 years before moving to the NSW MAG High Performance Centre in Homebush. For the last 11 years, Ming Lu has been Head Coach at NBG in Sydney, where his gymnasts have won many National Championships. He joins us, full time in January.

               Xiaoqing Li competed at the highest level in China from ‘82 - ’89. During that time she won Gold on beam at the Hungary Championships in ‘86 and again at the Chinese National Championships in ‘87.

               She then turned to coaching and was a Chinese National coach for 5 years including the Sydney Olympics in 2000. She then worked as Head Coach of the Bejing State team for 2 years, before moving to Australia where she worked as an Elite Coach at Westfields Sports High for 3 years, then NBG for 3 years as the WAG Elite Head Coach. Xiaoqing will also join us in January.
